ABOUT NAKISHA A. SANDY — SAN DIEGO FAMILY LAW ATTORNEY

Nakisha A. Sandy is an Associate Attorney at Reel Fathers Rights APC whose credentials set her apart from the field. She is a 2025 graduate of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) Family Law Program — the gold standard in American trial advocacy education — a recipient of the Lawyers Club of San Diego’s prestigious “Woman in the Law” scholarship, a National Mock Trial Competition winner (Puerto Rico, 2017) who earned Trial Advocacy Honors in law school, and a recognized community leader honored with the “Caribbean Woman on the Rise” award. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Nakisha brings a genuinely global perspective to her San Diego practice. Before and during her legal career, her background spanned complex asset investigation, appellate research, real estate brokerage, and child protection work as an investigator for the Texas Department of Family Services — giving her a multidimensional understanding of family dynamics, financial disputes, and child welfare that purely academic legal training cannot replicate. She earned her Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law (2018) and her B.S. in Behavioral Sciences from Andrews University (2002). She is admitted to both the California State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, and brings two years of California family law experience to every case.

Before her legal career, Nakisha served as an investigator for the Texas Department of Family Services — a role that gave her firsthand experience with child protection proceedings, family dynamics in crisis, and how government agencies assess the best interests of children. This background directly informs her approach to custody and child welfare arguments in California family court.

Her experience as a mortgage broker and business owner, featured in Real Estate Executive Magazine, provides unique insight into the financial dimensions of family law proceedings — particularly property division and hidden asset discovery. Outside the office, Nakisha volunteers as a high school Mock Trial Coach in San Diego County and for TEDx San Diego, and she provided free legal services to veterans and indigent clients through the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Family Law Clinic.
