ABOUT ANDREW CHUTE — SAN DIEGO FAMILY LAW ATTORNEY

Andrew Chute is an Associate Attorney at Reel Fathers Rights APC whose academic honors and court experience credentials are among the strongest of any new San Diego family law attorney. At California Western School of Law — one of San Diego’s leading law schools — Andrew earned three of the most selective distinctions available to a law student simultaneously: he was chosen as a Senior Teaching Fellow, trusted to instruct first-year law students in foundational legal skills; selected as a Law Review member through a competitive academic merit process; and appointed as a Research Assistant to the Director of International Legal Studies, conducting original legal scholarship at the faculty level. These concurrent honors identify Andrew as someone who excelled at California Western’s most demanding academic and leadership challenges while maintaining the research and analytical rigor required to contribute meaningfully to faculty-level legal scholarship.

Andrew completed two Judicial Externships at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California — researching complex federal legal questions and assisting in drafting judicial orders for a federal judge. Federal judicial externships are among the most selective experiential learning opportunities available to law students, and Andrew’s two placements reflect both the caliber of his academic record and the analytical precision that federal judicial chambers demand. He also served inside the San Diego Superior Court’s Office of the Family Law Facilitator as a Student Law Clerk and Summer Legal Intern, gaining direct exposure to how San Diego family courts process cases from the inside — an uncommon perspective that gives him insight into what judges and court staff see when they review case filings.

‘BEHIND-THE-BENCH’ PERSPECTIVE: SAN DIEGO SUPERIOR COURT FAMILY LAW FACILITATOR

Andrew’s most distinctive credential is his experience inside the San Diego Superior Court’s Office of the Family Law Facilitator, where he served as both a Student Law Clerk and Summer Legal Intern. In this role, he assisted self-represented litigants with divorce filings, child custody proceedings, and parentage actions — working directly within the court’s own infrastructure and gaining a perspective on family court decision-making that practicing attorneys rarely achieve.

This “behind-the-bench” experience gives Andrew insight into what judges and court staff actually see when they review case filings, how self-represented parties struggle with procedural requirements, and what distinguishes well-prepared cases from poorly presented ones. For fathers whose cases are heard in San Diego County family courts, Andrew’s inside knowledge of how the court operates is a concrete strategic advantage.

FEDERAL COURT JUDICIAL EXTERNSHIPS & CIVIL LITIGATION FOUNDATION

Prior to joining Reel Fathers Rights, Andrew completed two Judicial Externships at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California — researching complex legal questions and assisting in drafting judicial orders at the federal level. This federal court experience develops a precision in legal analysis and written advocacy that carries directly into family law practice.

He also practiced civil litigation before joining Reel Fathers Rights, handling claims involving fraud and consumer protection. His civil litigation background enriches his family law practice by giving him experience with discovery, motions practice, evidentiary issues, and courtroom advocacy that translates across practice areas.

SAN DIEGO FAMILY COURTHOUSES

Andrew appears before all of San Diego County’s primary family law venues: the San Diego Central Courthouse at 1100 Union Street in downtown San Diego, the South County Regional Center at 500 Third Avenue in Chula Vista, the El Cajon Courthouse at 250 East Main Street serving eastern San Diego County, and the Vista Courthouse at 325 South Melrose Drive serving North County San Diego communities including Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Escondido.

His direct experience within the San Diego Superior Court’s Office of the Family Law Facilitator, combined with federal judicial externship experience and law school recognition as a Senior Teaching Fellow and Law Review member, makes Andrew Chute a uniquely well-prepared advocate for fathers in San Diego County.
